Riata 1581/60 Lead

I was implanted in 2004. Multiple shocks from multiple devices. Have come to know true fear for the first time in life.

Experiencing a ragged, raspy feeling above my heart when I lean, stretch, reach with my left arm. Sensation has been manifest for 6-8 months and is getting progressively worse. The ICD is apparently not the issue but instead, the integrity of the lead is the problem.

Information from DOCS and VA is sparse at best. When I requested more info, I was told to read the New York Times article because the writer apparently had more information than the medical community.

I have learned that removal is risky and otherwise, not too much welcome news.

Crime that ICD implantees must go through painful surgery every 4 years to change a battery that could be externally charged. That doesn't sell any replacement ICDs.

Lead Extraction

by donr - 2013-04-22 01:04:51

Ramm: Second one today on the extraction issue.

Extraction is risky - but so is living! Read down a few posts & find out what was said today. Pacemaker & lead extraction is the title - author is mernmaidjan.

A recent member who had a satisfactory extraction, Tattoo Man commented in her thread. There have been other members w/ successful multi lead extractions done in the last year.

Using the laser Roto-Rooter makes for a relatively low risk procedure. If you need some data, let me know & I'll send it to you. I have not had one, but did some research when I faced the possibility of one.
