Fainted during PM regular checkup

Hi Frnds,

My father has been implanted with PM in July 2011.He has been going to Dr for regular checkups during at 6 months interval.During his recent visit he got fainted in-fact badly shocked when Dr was doing the checkup or trying to do the tuning. After the shock Dr is saying that there is some issue with the lead and due to which he has set the Threshhold value to 5V which is very high and suggest my father to have a surgery so that he can either replace the lead or see what has been wrong.

I just want to know if such type of shocks are common things during PM checkups or it's very rare and i should complaint against Dr in Hospital.

Please suggest.

Thanks in advance

No, shocks during a check and passing out are not normal. If a lead has gone bad, it's common to show up when they do the interrogation and they often turn it up in order to get the signal through so that it continues to function. Leads can go bad for a variety of reasons, most of which are unrelated to anything the dr or hospital has done. I would try to find out more before assigning blame.

I fell like I'm going to faint when they do the tuning of my PM. All hot and bothered, but it's only for a few seconds when they speed it up and quickly passes.

I am with these Guys.........nearly.

......................there are far simpler reasons why anxiety / stress issues affect people during interrogation / download / reprogramming.

As a self-confessed Crap Patient, I passed out at my first download. I started sitting in the chair and ended up on the deck where they completed the test ..after I had filled my shirt and shorts with sweat.

We now have a deal.

1 They get me to lie down before any mucking about.
2 Open the window.
3 Tell me EXACTLY when they are going to do that Switchy-Offy-Wibbly thing.

Mrs TM usually comes with me, and every time she says.." I just KNEW you were anxious because you waggle your feet about..as usual".

I dont know about others on this Forum, but the word "Shock" comes up so often and is so personal-subjective as a piece of information that must be seen in good perspective.

Best wishes to you and Dad, and do not forget, my observation, along with those of others, are in the main unqualified..at the end of the day its the Docs that take the responsibility.

I call the "fainting" something different. Have always called it "Doc playing God". From the first time thats what it made me think of. Never had a shock.
Best of Luck,

Thanks a lot everybody for your views. So finally we have to go for a small surgery where the Dr will finalize if the Lead need to be replaced or it can be adjusted w/o replacement.
Will keep bothering members to get clarifications if any i have.
Thanks a lot in advance,
