Do leads rust?

When I went back to have my bandages removed after getting my new PM I was seen by a nurse practitioner instead of my doctor. She made a remark about my leads not being rusty; I didn't get an opportunity to ask her about it. Have any of you heard about leads rusting and, if so, is it a rare event rather than to be expected at some point?

Thanks a lot.

How could they see the leads anyway, all they did was take the dressing off?

Could it be...............

....................that the nurse was guilty of no more than having a clumsy sense of humour ??

Pacingwithme,..I do agree with the others, and see that the nurse was clumsy,..and that you were at a ,predictably sensitive point post-op when you needed , for you, a more sensitive approach.

But Hey !...if you knew about Brit Humour you would not have had the slightest problem here...

I ,and others I would guess, could handle comments like:

Brilliant you havnt exploded...

You've done well coz your hair hasnt caught fire!!

Your rewire is good ,..not sure about your earthing (grounding)

Guys...sure its a sensitive time,..but Hey..lighten up !

Being given a new lease of life is,...just that...

Humour...the very BEST medicine

PWM..you could have taken control of the situation and challenged / questioned.

This comment comes from someone with a big heart, so please dont get me wrong.

She cannot be serious! Sometimes things are said that are not meant to be taken seriously, however misguided in this case to make light of having a PM.
Do artifical hips rust - no, though they have been known to cause problems due to micro deposits from wear.
The people making implants ( and I am waiting for my third dental implant) are well aware of what materials can be used in the human body.
PM leads are covered in silicone type coatings and the lead tip is made of metals such as platinum, titanium, silver, cobalt that do not rust ( though this term applies to ferrous metals and oxygen interaction). Corrosion, is kept to an insignificant amount by the use of such metals.

The impedance, a measure of resistance for a current to pass, is looked at for the leads during your PM check up. Be reassured your wiring is sound!

No Rusting

Hello Pacing,

No. your PM leads absolutely will not rust now or never.

It never ceases to amaze me what extremes some of the no-nothings will go to make themselves look smart. One suggestion, never ask that person anything about your PM as the answer may be anything but the truth. To be honest with you, I would not want that [person even doing a checkup on mine.

Good luck,

Smitty
