Getting "Unplugged"

On April 10, 2013 I was hospitalized for removal of my pacemaker and leads due to infection at the site. My pacemaker had also shifted to the left from its original site. I've been "unplugged" since the pacemaker/leads were removed. I'm having no ill effects. As of today (4/30) my cardiologist sees no need to replace the pacemaker at this time. I had my pacemaker for 18 months before the site got infected and it had to be removed.

Welcome to the club, I am also unplugged. Not many of us around.

What did you originally get the PM for?

How did it become infected after such a long time? What caused it to move? Why does the Dr. think you don't need it anymore. So curious!?

......................I had an infection after more than two years. This resulted in all my kit being removed and a new rig being installed in my right shoulder.

Why an infection ??....Absolutely no idea !!

Congrats to Mako887...tell us ..how does it feel to without your little friend. I very nearly had a complete ,permanent removal, but to be honest I feel reassured by still having one.

Why I'm "Unplugged"

by mako887 - 2013-05-01 10:05:49

As I wrote yesterday, on April 10th, I had my pacemaker and leads removed. No pacemaker is being installed at this time. Before I was discharged from the hospital, my cardiologist put me on the treadmill and had me on there for ten minutes. I hit 85% of my target heart rate (130bpm) and recovered without a problem. At no time did I have any shortness of breath, chest pains, dizzy episodes. I was originally given the PM because my resting heart rate was in the 30's. My PM was set at 50bpm, so during the day I don't think it fired at all. I feel fine NOT having a PM. Tomorrow I go see the cardiologist, so I'll have more to say then.

same problem with lead

I have also had infected an infected lead. It had a vegetation on it. It started attacking me the day after it was put in. After about 2 years of fevers, hospital stays, uncontrollable shaking from the fever Kaiser finally found out the problem. In the meantime, my immune system, which was trying to fight the infection, failed and my kidneys shut down. Kaiser also took my spleen, thinking it was defective since it was absorbing all my blood
