Working as a Nurse

Hi, everyone! Is there anyone here who has a pacemaker that still works as a nurse in a hospital? I will really appreciate it of you will share your experiences with me on how you restart working as a nurse after you have your pacemaker? Do hospitals still employ nurses with pacemaker? Thank you.

Use the search function on the upper right corner of this forum. We've had nurses answer your question before.

After 4-6 weeks - regular duty as long as no heavy lifting. But I'd question working the 12 hour shifts. Of course I had a lot of trauma before I got my PM and had a long recovery (seven months). We've had people run marathons the week following their PM implant. But I'd question they went back way too soon. So the stamina issue depends upon you.

Some hospitals won't let you work in radiology. MRI areas are off limits. Some hospitals refuse to let you go in the MRI/Radiology areas. Don't know why as my PM is shielded for MRI's and I was run through the areas without any problems. Even had an MRI. The most problem I had was where they put in the chest tube.

Worst case scenario is that you end up working in the the medical industry but not as a hospital nurse. The medical profession has a lot of areas in which you can use your knowledge without going into what they consider danger zones.

Hope things work out for you.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
