boxing

I have not had my pacemaker put in yet. I hope that it is ok that i joined but i wanted to ask some people who have been through this some questions.
Does anyone else do any type of boxing? I go to a boxing bootcamp and my concern is that i may not be able to do this after i have my pm. My doctor says that i should be able to resume my regular excercise but i didn't tell him i belong to a boxing club. I am not a boxer but we train like the boxers do. So it is a lot of push ups. planks, mountain climbers, sit ups and crunches, plus using the heavy bags and hand pads.
Any information on this would be great.

Do you spar or hold real bouts w/ real people?

None of the rest of your listed activities shoud adversely affect the PM, since they do not hit back! Like Soarrow said - you get hit in thr PM & it may not do the PM any damage, but it can sure hurt you like the Devi!

I am in a boxing bootcamp. We don't do any sparring it is just the hand pads and the heavy bag we hit. And some of the boxers sometimes let us hit them..lol! I just really enjoy doing that sport. I was concerned that i could do some damage if i did certain exercises. But i see from everyones posts that i will more then likely be able to get back into this once i heal.

I do crossfit which includes everything you mentioned as well as pull ups, heavy weights and running. My dr is ok with it and i havent had problems. Sparring is something different. If you take a hard direct hit to the pm, it will hurt!! It's not likely you'll damage it because its titanium but your skin isnt that tough. They make shirts with protection, if you spar you might want to look into it.

Tell your surgeon what type of exercises you do. There are different ways to place it. Some put it just barely under the collarbone, which can get in the way when doing some exercises. If they put it a little lower, and possibly a little deeper, it will be out of the way. Another option is putting it under the pectoral. Healing is a little longer but it would be buried.

Hallo, I will share my experience about Pacemaker. I received PM in 2004 when was practiced Aikido . Two months after that I back to training , and few month after PM start to move in my body and penetrated throw my skin. In autumn 2005 . had second operation when they put him below pectoralis muscle .Since than I practice tai chi chuan , mountain biking , swimming etc. even punching at boxing bag.
Because of that punching and other exercise , waiting third operation in these days .. PM penetrated out again.

So be careful about boxing ...
