Hi I have my pacemaker in since 2004 I'm just wondering when they change the battery how does it work how do they replace it

When you have it checked, ask how much time is left. They can last anywhere from 5-6 years on up to more than 10 years. It depends on your settings, how much you use it, the type you got to start with... lots of factors.

As long as the leads are good, all they do is go in the same place, pop out the device, attach the new one to the old leads, close us up. Easy! It's all scar tissue so the soreness is much less than the first time. And the leads were the reason for most of the restrictions the first time so none of that, just wait for the incision to heal. I'm on #4. If I get an early appointment,I'm home fixing my own lunch.

it is a piece of cake usually. I am on #3 now, #1 had a
lead problem & was only in 2 yrs so EP pulled the lead out & replace the PM so had to stay overnight like 1st time to check lead, etc in AM & keep arm below shoulder etc.
#3 done last yr as #2 lasted little over 8 yrs & that's at pacing 100%. So lots of variables.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
