HI All - Newbe here. Had BostonSci Guidant ICD put in in mid 2007. Time for replacement and was told by tech although they will install a new Boston unit there preference would be to go with a St. Jude or Medtronics as Boston has thier own propritarty systems for reading and managing the device. Been reading up and seems like Medtronics has there act together but am also happy with the unit I have had from Boston for the past 5 years. Thoughts?
I'll post more about the beeping this made in a later post..:-)
Thanks
Mark

If you hadn't heard yet, replacements are super easy! They go in the same place so it's all scar tissue. If they leads are good and all they're replacing is the box, the only thing that has to heal is the incision so none of the lifting restrictions you had the first time.
All of them have proprietary systems for reading and managing.
Medtronics is by far the largest company and yes, they do have their act together.
St Judes is a little smaller but also wonderful. I'm on my 4th St Judes, still have the same amazing rep who did my first on way back in 1994. He's gone above and beyond to make sure I feel great. Medtronics has a feature that may have been helpful for me so we discussed switching last time, but I didn't want to give up my rep so I chose to stay with SJM
BS is the smallest of the big companies, also good, the only drawback would be they don't have as many reps so if you happened to run into a problem while traveling you might not have a rep nearby.
Talk it over with your dr. If you have a good relationship with BS and you're doing well with what you have, there's probably no reason to change.
