Just my Luck

Well I had my pacemaker implant on November 9th. The Surgery itself went great. I got home and that's when it all went unfortunate. I had severe chest pain so I was rushed back to the nearest hospital and was told that one of my leads had punctured a hole in my heart. After one day in that hospital they transferred me to another for doctors more familiar with the situation. I spent one night there before the liquid around my heart had irritated my lungs enough to cause them to collapse. I spent three more nights there to get everything under control before I was sent home for further recovery. I am now back at work but am still in a ton of pain. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to dull the pain a little bit?

With that much pain you really need to see a pain management doc who has a better idea of what can be done. You have the inside of your chest irritated with blood which isn't supposed to be there. The long term solution is to give it time to heal, but you may need some support in the meantime.

Sorry you had this happen. If it wasn't for realizing that implanting the leads in the heart wall involves accurately hitting a wildly moving (beating) object with a sharp object I would think they are incompetent. I wouldn't want to try it (unless it was my own heart LOL).

Wow!! I'm getting a my pacer replaced next Wednesday, and I am praying that all goes well. I'm getting new wires too. Oh boy, I'm definitely praying for my Dr and staff befor they start on me.!! I would call the Dr. And when I had both if my open hearts they gave me Darvocets and it. Worked very well for me. I would call my dr though and ask for something to help with the pain.
