Bulk up in the Gym
Hello,
I am fairly new to the community. I had a Medtronics AICD installed in July 2011. I am interested in gaining a decent amount of muscle. Is there any limit to the amount of muscle I can put on? I understand that the AICD is sutured into muscle, is this something I need to be worried about?
Thank you in advance!

I am 100% pacemaker dependant and have been all my life. I try not to think about how a little metal box keeps me alive - it would drive me crazy. So I lead a very active life.
no worries

If your device is right under the collarbone, close enough that the leads might get pinched, then you need to be careful bench pressing very heavy. For most of us, there are no restrictions. If something doesn't feel good, don't do it. That's the advice I was given by my dr :) Some drs are more conservative than that, but I've been paced almost 20 yrs now, have done all sorts of things I've seen others here advised not to do, and I've never had a problem.
I'm a 40-something mom so bulking up is not my goal, but I do lift 5 days a week at Crossfit, they've helped me go heavier than I ever have before. The only thing I don't do is ring rows (hold rings, pull yourself up like an inverted push up). My pm is in the pectoral and doing that aggravates the scar tissue. It won't cause damage, but it doesn't feel too good either so I substitute presses or regular push ups.
Just use common sense.
