I recently had a Medtronic Pacemaker implanted and seem to be doing OK. I am normally a very active person who has run several marathons and now predominantly cycle. I'm looking forward to a full recovery, so that I can again start road biking. I also regularly get massages for muscular soreness and relaxation. Are ther any contraindications for getting a massage with an ICD? If not, how long after the procedure would it be safe to do so? Thanks for any input or replies.

As long as they don't mess with the pm itself, massages are fine.

I had my PM implanted September 27, and had my first massage last Friday. It felt very, very good. But I, too, had problems lying face down. So I plan to get one of those interlocking foam squares (a yoga mat would do, but it's more expensive) and cutting a rectangular strip about the width of my chest, from shoulder to shoulder. Then I'm going to cut a hole in the left side about the size of my PM.
I'll let you know how it works.
But I sure won't give up my weekly massages. For anything.

I got my first tmessage yesterday and my pacer was implanted on 7/30/12. The message was so wonderful! Only problem I had was that I couldn't lie face down on the table because it was too much pressure on my chest. The therapist had me lie on my side and she worked all the stress out of my back. Deeply! That's my experience, I know others may be different.
I am also a road biker and looking forward to getting back on the bike. I'm working on it indoors on a stationary bike until I feel good enough to go outside. I am having problems with meds, so I can't risk dizziness when I'm on the road. My goal....get off meds! Hopefully, you won't have to deal with this issue. Good luck to you in your journey. Carol
