Hi all im new to the site but not to the pacemaker! as i have had a few over the years. Can anyone tell me if it is unsafe to wear crocs as they do not earth to the ground and therefor leave your body charged with static!!! Some one said it to me the other day while i was wearing a pair as they knew i had a box.

Hi Cormac,
I agree with TraceE, I wear Crocs all the time.
I think somebody was just messing with you.
Go out and buy yourself a brand new pair of corcs today.

I figured you had more to worry about than static electricity.
I live in the Calif desert where we regularly have humidity in the 5-10% range. My only problem is forgetting to ground myself before touching the mouse or keyboard on the computer. I've had it cause a reboot.
I also get a pretty good zap when touching a water faucet.Never bothered the pacer though.

Watch them silk panties, they can be a bear. If you live you create static electricity! You may feel a little charge/discharge and even see a spark or so but it WILL NOT do anything to you devise. Like don said, keep a key in hand when exiting you auto, touch the metal and DISCHARGE or touch your mate (this will charge 'em up and get them ready for ACTION!

Crocs are...

...insulating & you can build up a static charge while wearing them.
HOWEVER...you can build up a static charge under a lot of circumstances - like on a cold dry day in winter (IF such a thing exists in Ireland) while driving a car. Just about ANY shoes are insulating. Open the door to get out to pump gasoline & step out, touch the metal of the door & you get zapped. Happens to me several tens of times every winter.
A second HOWEVER... the static charge resides on the outside of your body because your body is a conductor. When you discharge, the current does not flow through the INSIDE of your body, so does not affect the PM/ICD.
If you do not like the feeling of getting the shock, hold a key in your hand to ground yourself.
A caution!!!!! When wearing crocs, be sure to discharge any static electric charge from your body before pumping gasoline. You do NOT want the resultant spark anywhere near gas fumes - it can set it off in a neat explosion.

It doesn't matter what shoes you wear! Whoever said that doesn't have a clue what they're talking about.
