Golf

July 18,2012 I had a Boston pm implanted. I love to play golf and feel fine in that respect but Dr said 6 weeks to swing but could pratice putting in 2 wks and chipping in 4 wks and golf in 6 wks.I have a notion to call Dr. back and tell him I feel I could golf now. Should I do this/

The problem is that sudden movements like a golf swing can tug on the leads all way down to the heart. This can pull the lead out of the heart wall, and require surgery to replace it.

What you need to wait for is the leads to scar into the wall of the vein they travel in to the heart. Once this happens they have more protection. There is no feeling that goes with this until the lead is pulled out.

I realize the urge to golf. When I lived in Tucson I remember several golfers killed each year while playing in a lightning storms. Even though warnings were everywhere it was too much for them give up a round. (:

The worst movement that you can make with a PM is a golf swing..
This. .......just might be the ideal opportunity to pack in golf..... and take up a Sport !!

based on your other post where you stated you still have a pain around your chest. Until this is diagnosed, if it were me I wouldn't even think of playing golf.

Not trying to be a downer, just erring on the side of caution.

Good luck,
Pookie

The dr's advice is good

Hi Archie ..as a keen golfer myself I know just how you feel but think how good your chipping and putting will be !

As Frank suggests, a golf swing really is about the worst movement you can make with a PM in the first 6 weeks or so. After 6 weeks I started with a half swing and gradually got back to my normal game ...I'd love to tell you that a PM has improved my handicap..dream on !

IF you really want to live dangerously play before 6 weeks and in a lightning storm ; but I wouldn't recommend either.

Cheers

...thoughtful advice I've read from a cardio on getting back to golf! Whoever it is, that cardio is a KEEPER!

Be thankful. No matter how great you feel, Ian says it all.

I'm glad to hear your feeling better. I personally would wait until the Dr said to. You don't want to pull the leads out and have to have the surgery all over again.
Good luck :-)

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
