31 weeks pregnant

Hi everyone!! This question is for any ladies who have had babies with a pacemaker and CHB. (Complete heart block) how was labor with the pacemaker? Any complications? We're you able to push the baby out no problem? What about C-section? If you had to get C-section, how was that in regard to the pacemaker? Thanks ladies for responses! Helps me so much :)))

Hi thank you!! I'm hoping to have a natural child birth. Well a vaginal birth anyway... Most likely going to have the epidural... But it's good to hear that's its been done successfully. My cardiologist is a male, however he is not worried at all about it. Nor my male obstetrician... They are both on top of things and I trust their opinions...just wanted to hear some experience.. Thanks again

I have CCHB and was paced through both pregnancies. Both of my deliveries were uneventful, vaginal, no drugs, no complications. My cardiologist told my ob to treat me like everyone else, that having the pm fixes my problem so the pm has no impact a pregnancy. I was on a heart monitor during delivery just in case both times but I think that was more to humor the ob than because the cardiologist was worried. I exercised right up until the week before both times and was allowed to deliver in the birthing suites instead of the main hospital. I did get a lot of nurses poking their heads in the door to see where the pacing spikes were coming from. Apparently that's not something L&D sees very often ;o)

I don't know if the meds they use in an epidural have changed (my girls are 15 and 16 now) but at the time an epidural could affect hr and bp so I chose not to have one. That was just personal choice, I was never told I couldn't/shouldn't. I have found new drug allergies with every surgery and if there are 10 side effects odds are good I'll get 9 any time I take a new drug so I decided not to go there. I've talked to other ladies here who were told to get the epidural because it would relax them which would be less stress on the heart so there are arguments for/against either choice. Talk to your ob and your anesthesiologist and decide what's right for you. Don't worry about your heart, just concentrate on your baby. Good luck!!
