Infection?

Hi everyone!

I just had a question in hopes to maybe someone having an answer. I just had a pocket revision for my pacemaker about 2 months ago and had been getting along fine until last night when out of no where had pain shooting through the left shoulder area where the pacemaker is. When I lay down on my back or left side the pain is absolutely horrible and I can't even touch the pacemaker itself. Also it feels like a fire is sitting behind it. I am scheduled in 4 weeks for another ablation (my 8th) but I'm worried about having this pain come out of no where. Does anyone know if this sounds like something is brewing or are things shifting? It does not feel like the pacer or wires have moved. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Thanks!

You can't touch the PM without horrible pain? Don't mess around wondering if "something is brewing." You know something is WRONG.

Call your doctor right now. If you can't get to the doc then take yourself to an ER.

Called EP

I called my EP and of course they were at lunch so I had to leave message to have the nurse call back...so far no luck. In my opinion there is nothing worse then having to sit around and wait by a phone for them to call. I hate to make a trip to the ER and have them tell me that everything is fine and have them look at me like i'm crazy. I don't have a fever but the pain is just weird how it came on.

............I am with these guys.....infection is a real bummer...catch it soon.

Remember that you are doing yourself a big favour and also a favour to the medics who don't need a bigger problem to deal with than necessary.

Been there and it aint fun...

EP finally called back

He has said that since I had to have a plastic surgeon do the pocket revision (it was a difficult placement) I need to have him look it over to see if anything has moved and to check for infection. Correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that my EP's job? I am 8 weeks out and as far as post op he cleared me 2 weeks ago.

So I called the surgeon and have an appt with him in the morning, but his office was wondering why my EP didn't want to look at it. Meanwhile I get to put up with the pain and will probably not get much sleep again tonight since when I lay down it makes the pain 10x worse. I am really hoping that maybe just some scar tissue tore or something simple, if its the start of an infection I am not going to be a happy camper!
