new to all this!!

Hello. Name is Heather I am 23. I just got my pace maker on Thursday. Are there any other swimmers out there, or outdoor enthusiast? can you tell me what acclimating was like for you? Will I really get back to complete and total normal? I am so paranoid about ripping out my leads. Can I get some reassurance! Pretty please! with sugar on top!

Some people hardly think about a recent implant. You are less likely to hear about them on this Forum because they ,..well, they hardly think about it !

Try this...

Hands up who wants a lump of metal stuck in their shoulder with 'electricky' wires poked into their hearts ??

Ah, that will be ...No One

Hands up who wants to get back to a normal life so you can resume previous activities whether they be gardening, swimming and sky diving ??

" All Of Us " !!!!!!!!

Give it some time and you'll be as good as new , you have so much to look forward to.

Best wishes, Tattoo Man + Sugar on top !!

i got a my pacemaker 5 weeks and 1 day ago.

I have started doing kettle-bell exercises , aerobic (stationary bike and stair-climber ) every day some form of exercise for about 1-2 weeks( slowly building up)

I figure that I know how I feel and I know my body better than anyone and I know my bodies limitations. I won't push too hard right now and am very careful but I am not going to do just do nothing because someone says...

Just me.Not the normal type .never have been and never will be.

I don't and wont live in fear.
The mind is very powerful and maybe I'm out of mine Press On.

The inital waiting time just about drove me nuts. My implant was May 3 and my doc has given me a green light for just about anything I want to do. (you mentioned swimming, I was told 2 moths of no total immersion- some kind of nasty water borne bacteria) Just left the gym and included 50 pullups in todays workout.
Follow all instructions and try to be patient. You'll get your life in order soon.

I got my pacemaker when I was 26. I've had one now for 37 years and haven't missed a thing.

The only thing you miss is what you don't try. :)

Once you heal, enjoy your life.

My best to you,
Gellia

Follow your doc's instructions to a "T." Once the leads have healed in, you should be fine if you don't have other heart issues to prevent you from your normal activity.

Yes, I agree with Heather.

I was a total wreck about pulling out my leads but it's been 9 weeks now and I'm good to go. I'm been exercising and living my life.

You're a young woman with yr whole life in front of you
You'll get back to normal in no time.

Follow Your Doc's Orders

I had my PM implanted in 1/11. My doc actually had some competitive swimmers with pacemakers as patients. I was told not to swim for about 8 weeks. By July 2011 I was back to competing in olympic distance triathlons and on 5/19/12 I competed in and completed Ironman Texas (2.4mile swim, 112mile bike, and 26.2 mile run).

You know you're wired when...

Like the Energizer Bunny, you keep going.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
