So, I am a very weird unproductive man. By that I mean, I like to learn new things and move on to learn something else. One thing I would like to learn is how to fly a plane. I'm just wondering if having this little computer in my chest stop me from flying a plane? Like, might it mess with the systems of the plane or the plane mess with my systems?

Thanks!

Thanks, that makes a load of since. I guess once I can talk someone into teaching me, I'll learn.

there should be no reason not to learn. Just understand that my understanding is there are a few extra hoops you will have to jump through because of the PM.
I am a pilot who gave up my plane and flying when my heart started giving me issues - long before the implant. I decided it was not in anyone's best interest to attempt landings with a heart rate of 240 bpm.
Thanks

Rfassett, I understand that. That's the reason why I only want to learn how to fly small planes and not have passengers. Even with the doc saying that my heart is getting stronger, I don't want to risk it.
Angerysparrow, lol. Yeah I think I know someone who might help me. I've not talked to him in years, he most likely doesn't even know that I've had any problems with my heart. So I'll guilt him into lessons. lol.
Get a good instructor

Sounds like we're brother's under the skin. I like to learn new stuff and then go on to new things. Nothing wrong with that. They call us chapter closers. We finish with one chapter in our life, close it, and go on with something else.
Because of my wide experience I do a lot of training - both adults and kids. It's a way for me to give back. Since I've been in so many different positions I have a lot of empathy for the people I'm training. I've been in their shoes and can give them some insights another instructor might not.
Get yourself a good flight instructor. I had quite a few "cowboy" flight instructors and quit trying to learn how to fly. You don't want an instructor who says, "This ain't gonna be no wimpy Cessna ride!" One of my "instructors" wasn't paying attention and we got a bird on the windshield on his side. (Sometimes there is a God.) I thought he was going to break the seat belt. I wasn't too concerned until I talked to some other pilots and you started seeing the sweat pop out on their foreheads.
Finally found an instructor who was a good one and really got upset because I had been taught so many wrong things. You may have to search a little longer but it will be worth the effort.
Let us know if you get your wings! Hang in there.

Seems like what I need

Yeah I talked to the guy I know and he said he wasn't comfortable letting me fly his plane. He is a little afraid that my heart will give out. Upsetting, but not unwarranted. So I'll shop around, so to say and treat it like finding a new doctor. Thanks for the advice!

...no reason.
Neither will the plane interfere w/ your PM/ICD nor will your PM interfere w/ the plane.
Were the situation the reverse, they would not permit PM/ICD hosts to fly.
