Hot Tubs, Kayaking and Tubing

Hi everyone,
Just joined the club today. I got my PM in March 2012.
Can I go in Hot Tub when I want? I work out a lot on the treadmill and do some stationary biking. I also hike and kayak.
My doctor is great but very careful with me. I want to go shooting and he wants me to wait.
I have started to get pressure on my PM is that common? I work with a weed whacker with a lithim battery attached. Is there a problem with that.
Any insight would be great.

I can't address your other questions but sure others will. But I get into a hot tub any chance I get which is unhappily not too much. But in the 12 yrs I have had my PM @ 100% paced, I have had no problem getting into/soaking in a hot tub. So as long as your wound is completely healed based on my experience, should be no problem. Have fun.

Hot tubs

Hi Freedom,
I too am new to this site,(PM May 2012) but I love it...can't wait to get home everyday to see what's happening.

I can have a little input about hot tubs. I, in fact, just asked my doc the same thing this morning. As Janetinsk said, be sure your incision site is well healed. Other than that she said it would be fine as long as "the hot tub is properly grounded". Well, who would have thunk it?! I certainly hope ours is, but never thought about it at all.

She said we would be shocked at "the white noise" people have on their PM when they come in for checks & it turns out that they have been around something that is not grounded.

As far as pressure around PM. I definitely have that. It seems especially intense when I have been in bed & get up & start walking. Also, when I bend over.

Hope you continue to do well & have many relaxing hours in your hot tub. Can't wait to get in mine. Have missed some pretty ideal evenings for the past month.

Some drs are very conservative with lists of restrictions but most are not restrictive at all. I've found the ones who are conservative are not that way because they've had a lot of bad experiences, but that they have next to no experience with young, active pm patients. I've been paced for almost 20 yrs now, my dr not only says I can do whatever I want, but encourages me to live life to the fullest and not worry about my pm. I have done everything you listed except the weed whacker, I tend to kill plants and prefer to write a check to a lawn service. Three months is more than enough to heal.

Shooting, is your pm on your dominant side? You don't want a rifle but up against it. Won't damage it but will sure as heck hurt. My pm is on the left, I'm right handed so it's not an issue.

The pressure could just be healing, the scar tissue building up. A heating pad or ice might help it feel better. If it's accompanied by redness, oozing, streaks, fever, get it checked immediately.

Um, no one should get in a hot tub that's not properly grounded, lol. electricity + water

Welcome to the group
