Hi everyone,
I'm new to the group.
History:
49 years old and two 12 year old boys (twins) I need to keep up with.
Medtronics BIV-ICD implanted 02/09/12 and 100% paced.
Diagnosed with CHF 10/19/12 with 15% EF
01/19/12 -- EF improved to 20% with medication but BIV-ICD was recommended.
I was very active, surfing, hiking, jui-jitsu and cycling. until I started getting tired very easily.
I started exercising the 1st weekend I got home from my implant, just walking. About a month afterwards, I started hiking, 5 - 10 miles at elevation above 6k ft. After 6 weeks, I was back to normal exercising minus the Ju-Jitsu. I don't know how much my EF has improved but I do feel much better and as my EP said, "Live my Life and don't let my condition stop me"
My question is:
How can a person excersise and stay hydrated and keep their electrolytes balanced when Lasix is part of your daily meds?
Regards,
Ron

One thing that folks with CHF (Of which I am one) is that we are suppose to limit fluid intake and the rest of the world is yelling "Drink, Drink, Drink". Makes it confusing for sure.

I'm not on lasix so I dont' know much about it but I switched from powerade/gatorade to coconut water for after workouts and it works so much better! More electrolytes, none of the sugar.
p.s. I hate the taste of coconut water. I mix it with seltzer, lemon juice and stevia, tastes like a light refreshing sprite
You know you're wired when...
You invested in the Energizer battery company.

Awesome, so glad things are going well for you. Not an authority on it but I would say just follow your gut on the hydration/electrlytes. I am a profuse sweater and when I cycle in the heat or work out side it looks like I was in a rain storm. The dog will lick on me for 1/2 hour so I know I am losing salt/minerals. Despite this I usually do o.k. I take 1 bottle of just water and a second bottle of G2 or Poweraide etc. on a 30 mile ride and that seems to work o.k. Also I like to eat a GU or shot block every 45 mins. or so if I am out over an hour.
Take Care.
