Hystroscopy and d&c

I need to go for a hystroscopy and d&c in two weeks time. Anything I should know to tell the anesthesiologist and gynecologist regarding my pacemaker?

I have been seriously shocked by (a few) healthcare professionals in the past, regarding their perception and knowledge of pacemakers. One even asked me once if I can hear it ticking! I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious! :o!

What's the story with general anesthesia and pacemakers?

non-issue

Someone thought a pacemaker has a clockwork mechanism??! LOL.

Seriously, a PM does not add to your surgical risks. If anything, there's less risk. Anesthesia sometimes makes a patient's heart stop, but you (and your surgeon) can rest assured, YOUR heart is not going to stop.

I've had 2 surgeries post PM, operations that like yours were nowhere near the heart, and the PM was simply a non-issue.

Surgery

Having had several non heart related surgeries since implant, there have never been any issues or problems. They need to be aware of it as you are hooked up doing the pocedure and the readings are differant , that's it.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
