HEARTBEAT 112 PACED?

Just out of surgery for my third PM 4 days ago. Feel weakness in my legs above knees and somewhat lightheaded. Called Dr's office, they said leg weakness and strange feelings would be addressed when I return in one week for checkup and staples removal.

Started checking heartrate last night. Seems to be stuck on 110/112 bpm. Same this morning. Old PM was set on 70. Why is heartrate so fast? Can a dual pacer be set as high as 110?

Should I be concerned?

pacing

It can pace you that high, but there's no reason it should be when you're not doing anything. Why do you have the pm, do you know if you primarily pace atrial or ventricle? If you have av block, which means pacing ventricle, and are going that fast it's you not the pm. The pm can only add beats, it can't slow you down if you go that fast on your own. Have ever had afib? Or new meds? Unless your appt is tomorrow, I'd call and ask to be seen sooner. Hopefully it's something minor. Good luck.

Call and insist on being seen

This is growing problem. Pacer implants are being seen by the cardiologists and hospitals as another lucrative profit center. The attitude is diagnose, implant, minimize office visits, and collect insurance. Only us squeaking wheels get attention.

There is no reason for your resting HR to be in the 110/112 range and unresponsive to rest or exercise. Something isn't right.

The leg weakness is another issue that shouldn't be put off.

My suggestion is to also have a talk with the doc and suggest if he/she can't provide service you will be looking for a another one.

You know you're wired when...

I wouldn't be alive if it wasn't for pacemakers. I've had mine for 35+ years. I was fainting all of the time and had flat-lined also. I feel very blessed to live in this time of technology.
