What does this mean? Went for check up 5 days ago, and not feeling quite right. Having some discomfort when PM is pacing. Not quite sure about this new sensation.

Increased Threshold

Your question is short and simple, so it seems. However the answer is no so simple. But to give you what I think it is in terms of your pacemaker it means is the strength of the impulse from your pacemaker to your heart was increased slightly. Or, it could mean the resistance the impulse from the pacemaker has to overcome to make the heart beat has increased which may or may not have resulted in an increase in power out put from the pacemaker.

If it were me I would ask my doctor what it means for me.

Now if you want to see a good article on this and the function of pacemakers in general go to this web site http://www.vaanes.org/FORUMS/pacer.html

Pacing threshold.

Smitty has it right that it relates to the voltage level applied to the heart to cause a contraction. The voltage has to be high enough to provide reliable pacing under a range of conditions. This is one of the main things that is tested during an office checkup. At one point I experienced what is called "loss of capture" which meant I was skipping as many as 4 beats in a row. They increased the voltage slightly and all was well again.

Sometimes when this happens they will increase the voltage quite a bit, which makes pacing feel different.
