Hi all.
Great to read all your comments. I don't have a pacemaker myself but my mum does. She had hers fitted in sept 1984 and still has the same one. She was 39 when it was fitted. I often wonder whether she holds the record for the longest lasting p/m, does any body know?
Regards
Rachel

Could be nuclear

Your mom's pacemaker might have a nuclear battery. They stopped using them in the mid 1980's, so the time frame fits. If so, she might never need a replacement. The government collects them when they are removed because of the material used to power them. You can check them out at this site: http://home.comcast.net/~dprutchi/nuclear_pacemakers.pdf

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.

Your mom has the same exact pacemaker since 1984? i had my pacemaker since one month old, i am now 24 and on my 5th one lol my longest last for 10 years.. the one i have now will be 8 in August. I never knew that was possible to last more than 15 years! Does your mom know how long she has left?
