real exercise

I have had PM for 3 weeks. Doctor said I could exercise as long as I do not extend left arm over head, no golfing, no bowling etc. I had been working out with personal trainer for 6 months and really pushing myself to lose weight prior to PM. Running 1/2 mile intervals, 60min on eliptical, weights etc. I am scared to start up again. Do you think it is too soon-

No, not too soon to exercise...

...but use common sense. The day you got out of the hosp was as good a day as any to start - with walking; nothing more.

Face it, you were in good shape & used to the regimen. The Cardio said you could, so get back in harness - just don't try to start where you left off.

Don't involve your left arm. Walking & jogging are fine. You are only 142 yrs old, so the sky's the limit - NOT!!!!! You have the rest of your life in front of you. Start slowly & work your way up to where you were Screw up the PM implant by overdoing it & you reset the clock - again! Surgery takes some of the wind out of your sails, so don't expect to be where you left off.

Exercise

Great advice above, start slowly and just listen to your body. Sometimes we forget that we had surgery and our body does need time to heal. Also, you MAY experience some exercise intolerance if your settings are not appropriate for your exercise needs. By starting slowly you'll give your body a chance to adjust to your PM and you will learn if the settings are working for you and not against you. You may have already had your settings changed, or not and they are fine for you. Just know if you experience any issues while exercising they can usually be resolved by an adjustment :). I have read about and experienced having my settings updated while in an aerobic setting such as on a treadmill to get them "just right".
Enjoy :)

Body Talks

I think you'll find your body talks to you. Do whatever it allows you to do - with the exceptions the doctor suggested. To his list I would add wrestling, and football. I've even found when I play basketball I need to tell the people guarding me that I am just doing this for the exercise. Basketball doesn't need to be a contact sport to be fun. :)

I've had my pm for five going on six years. I eventually was able to golf, after healing, but I won't lie I can tell my body doesn't like it when I golf.

Walking and running is fine, and you should keep working with a personal trainer. If you get tired listen to your body, and then get out there again.

You know you're wired when...

A thirty-day guarantee is not good enough.
