Sun Salutations & Down Dog

Hey yall, I've been reading the posts about yoga and have not found exactly what I'm looking for, so here goes:
(it'll be 6 weeks post implant on Wed :o)

1. Knowing that everyone is an individual, what is the average time frame to return to SS & DD - at 6 weeks, 9 weeks or longer?

2. If 9 wks or more is safest, what can be done to modify SS & DD between 6-9+ week period?

3. I'm surprisingly still sore on the sides of my pm when I lay on my left side. How long will that be the case.

Wishing you all well,
Natalie

Yoga

Hi Natalie,
I would not attempt sun or dog for a few weeks as each requires not only full extension of the arms but weight bearing on the arms as well. After a pacer, I just stick with a simple routine till I can put weight on my arm that contains the pacer on that side. Sit out on these poses or try something a little easier. I can usually test my strength by leaning against a wall (hands on wall) and attempting to push your weight back. If this causes you discomfort try again in a few days. I find that the yoga helps tremendously but just don't over do too quickly, it will come!

Best of luck!
Susan

Thanks yall!

Hi Natalie, I don't know is you still check your posts, but I'm a newbie due to get a PM in several weeks, I am so concerened about how long I won't be able to do all of my yoga and women/weight lifting classes. So.. how long dit it take for you to get back to all the positions? You are my idol for posting this. I hope someone sees this
Thank you Lynne

yoga and the PM

Hi Lynne,

It unfortunately took me about 3-6 months to get back to DD but the other poses were possible. I do suggest taking it slowly and really pay attention to how you feel through each movement. I did not and caused an impingement in my shoulder, which even today (17 months later), I have to be very thoughtful. I have a trainer now and my pilates teachers are very mindful of my limitations. I'm lifting weights, doing push ups (modified) and getting back to running - I'm so happy!

Stopping yoga/pilates/weightlifting is not an option, we need to continue moving - now that our hearts are fully operational, the rest of us deserves to move as God intended!

If you have any other questions, you can certainly ask me again. Everyone on here is wonderful and helpful, I made it through this because of this site and the input from all.

I wish you well,
Natalie
