Don, what on earth are you talking about. Where in Pani's postimg does he mention crying??
If I read him right he was asking about peoples experience of having pm replaced n how long the leads will last!
I don't think he needs a full page of totally non-relevant verbal diarrhea from someone who, in my humble opinion, probably should book himself an appointment with a goo psychiatrist.
PANI people will NOT crawl out from under stones or any such nonsense, they will, hopefull, answer your perfectly reasonable question in a sight more respectful way than Don.
best wishes to you Jan

In regards to your post, I am on my fifth device with the leads being changed out once after seven years because of infection. I had no complications. I must add the fact that two defibs were changed out, one for the infection and another because unexpectedly the battery drained. Hope all is well.........Laben

Hi Ian,
I had already written my first posting above before I read the earlier posting from Pani where she makes it clear that she is, as you say, a woman concerned about her hubbie
Jan
Have you got the sex right sputnick ?

Reading Pani's posts , when she refers to her husband , I have assumed that she is female and not male as you suggest, Sputnick... but Pani why are you asking about multiple PM and lead changes.Has it happened to you or are you worried that it might ?
Best wishes
Ian

Strange posts/comments. ~ Anyway, I have had like 5 generator replacements, I lost count. A total of 6 leads, with 3 leads being extracted. That's my life, 33 years with a pacemaker and still going strong.

I am on my fourth and the only reason that they put new leads in is because I had my PM moved and they decided to re-wire me. My 1st one lasted not quite 5 years, 2nd one lasted 7 1/2 years, 3rd one lasted 8 1/2 years. My current one was put in 2005 and I have it checked this coming Monday to see how it is doing.

...& we'll have a good cry together!
Pani - you have NOT just invented the wheel, nor do you ride a great white stallion & shoot silver bullets from a 6 Gun along / a faithful Indian companion named "Tonto." In short - you are NOT the Lone Ranger.
Scads of people have left their footprints down the PM replacement & lead replacement trail. You are about to meet them as they crawl out from under rocks here & tell you their tales of woe, joy & everything in between.
I know why you want to cry - I think. You are tired of the grind at an early age w/o the end in sight. Guess right? Ya know why I want to cry - the same question for the umpteenth time. But - not much info to figure out what your story is. Even your profile tells me nothing except perhaps your age - & I'm not really sure that is correct! How many PM's HAVE you had? Why do you have it? Serious problems? nuisance problems? 100% paced? Etc, etc, etc.
Oh, BTW: From what you wrote, I explained to my faithful sidekick, John Watson, MD (late of Her Majesty's Afghan Army) that you are obviously having psychological problems of the anxiety, leading into potential depression type. You are closer to the depression end of the spectrum than the anxiety end. You want help & do not know where to turn to get it. You are frustrated out of your tree; you most likely are unhappy w/ your cardio team because they aren't giving your mental state enough attention.
So, you have come to us & asked "...I've got this piece of string in my purse. How long is it?"
Well, my answer is simple - "It's longer than it is short!"
Pani, now that I have convinced you that I haven't a brain in my head. I'll tell you what I know about the psychological problems of hosting a PM.
It is not unusual to suffer these kinds of emotions. The future of repeating surgeries; never knowing when you might have to have leads replaced; the uncertainty of what a lead replacement is like; the fear of the unknown - all these things are natural - absolutely natural. I'm guessing from your post that you have heard terrible horror stories about lead replacement. Not so. It's a complex procedure; it has its risks; but given a good surgeon, it's not much worse than a PM implant.
Me - I've been down the surgery road three times. First - implant; second a lead replacement 'cause one broke; third, a new PM 'cause the original battery died.
There are folks here who have had more PM jobs than you have fingers! They'll jump in.
BUT!!!!! meanwhile, why don't you sit down & spill your guts a bit more about yourself - your cardiac history; why you want to cry; how frustrated you are - just like this is a soap opera. Do it now to catch everyone when they sit down to the computer after supper. WE will help you out - that's why we are here..
MOF, I'll be looking for something from you so I can be a lot more specific. Been there, done that; can write the book on anxiety. I've looked into the abyss of depression, decided I didn't like it & came back w/o buying it. You can too.
