Here we go again.

Hi to the technical guys on here. I thought I was imagining it when I previously commented on my PM and check outs at supermarkets. Well, I have just been to Sainsburys with Mrs. clockman1 and when I used the self serve check out, it doesn't work it just shouts for help and freezes, and not for the first time. So my wife tried it, no problem, then I tried it again and it froze up again, we played this little game twice more with the help of a worried checkout assistant, and with the same results. So the terrible consequence of all this is that I cant do the shopping anymore on self serve tills at Sainsburys, tragic, devastating, and strangely liberating. Now I'm not one for skipping chores, and I'm really upset that I can't do the grocery shopping anymore (snort), however, it has, to my surprise, once again shown that there IS some sort of interaction happening here, any explanations anybody. If it was an isolated incident I would be wary of making judgements.....but! Now if I can just get it to work on parking meters.

No Problems

I have used the self service check outs at Tesco, Morrison and Sainsburys recently with no problems whatsoever.

Big Box store check out

by Reboot1212 - 2013-10-11 03:10:39

I also feel really bad at the Big Box stores. Their security scanners at the wide open check out zones get me big time. Guess I get caught in the crossfire. Had to get 100 ft outside before it settled down. Happens at Costco and Walmart. Sometimes at electronic stores (lots of hidden scanners).

EKG artifact

by Bostonstrong - 2013-10-11 07:10:04

I cannot be in the room when one of my patients gets an EKG. My medical assistant does these and if I enter the room before she is finished there is so much artifact the computer software diagnoses each EKG as a fib. I step outside the room, the artifact disappears. When I come back in, it returns. My staff thinks this is a hoot. I'm a little worried about having to use the defibrillator on someone and hoping that it can get a good read on the rhythm because I have to be in the room for that.

I killed my microphone!

by judyblue - 2013-10-11 10:10:38

Wow this is amazing! second day back to work and my infrared microphone I use which hangs on a lanyard around my neck, freaked out. It kept cutting out. After calling Medtronic I realized I should not be wearing it. I am waiting for my principal to get me a headset. I will probably have to get one myself. But I convinced myself it was coincidence that the mic died. Maybe not! I hope more people share their experiences on this.

Your saying that the self serve till freezes up?

by PacerRep - 2013-10-11 12:10:46

Is that what your saying? There has to be another explanation. What else do you have on your body?

More training needed?

by KAG - 2013-10-11 12:10:48

Or perhaps use the regular checkout lanes?

So far I've never experienced any interference problems using yard equipment, phones, computers, wireless, security, checkouts...... That doesn't mean there isn't any but I've not found it yet.

If I were your wife I'd say "nice try".

I just realized...

by donr - 2013-10-14 07:10:58

...that sometimes when I approach our dogs' door to the back yard that it spontaneously opens when I get too close to it. Never thought about that happening till now. It is activated by ultra high freq sound that is beyond human sensing - also dog sensing, so it has to be pretty high freq.

Made me wonder.

Don

Thanks to all.

Thanks everybody for an interesting selection of comments, even the veiled hints about my sanity.
To PacerRep, the only other thing I alway's carry is my old steam powered mobile which is always turned on.
To Kag,its happened several times so I know I'm not nuts...well, maybe a little.
Judging by the range of comments, it does appear that there can be some kind of interaction with some people and in varying circumstances. So sadly, I don't do much shopping now or use the self checkout. I know, I know, it's tragic, but Mrs.clockman1 is very kind and forgiving, and we have discovered the delight's of Sainsbury's shopping online. (I love it when a plan come's together). Really, as long as it's not fatal I don't mind, and it's another excuse for not going out on cold days!

PS A friend has just told me about a wireless doorbell he bought that used to ring on it's own and drive him nut's, until he discovered the guy next door had the same bell set on the same frequency. Small world hey!
