lead damage

I'm seven weeks into my dual chamber pacer. Just wondering if maybe I've done damage to the leads...much busier than I should be, I suppose. How much activity does it take to damage the leads or pull them out? I'm back to walking with no light headness, so maybe I'm OK? Have any of you damaged your leads after implantation?

Hi,

Ive had my pacemaker in for 3 and a half weeks, and apart from the first few days when my husband was off work ive been running round after my 2 year old and 3 year old. Ive barely been able to sit down, been changing the nappies of my very wriggly 2 year old, lifting her in and out of the buggy, generally struggling with her while she thumps her head into my chest etc, while answering the constant demands of both of them. Not to sound negative about looking after two little ones of course but its not easy when youre worried about leads detaching. I have been carefull not to fling my arm above my head though.

My point is i'm pretty sure mine havent, well i've no reason to think they have anyway. I'm sure aside from thre return of pre-pacer symptoms, we'd get some kind of nusance triggering/chronic hiccups/weird sensations to indicate a detachment or damage.

You would know it if you did any serious damage to the leads. The most likely result would be to have the same symptoms that resulted in your getting the pacer.

There is a lot of concern here on the site about damaging leads or pulling them out of the heart wall. Actually it is very uncommon. Even then the cause is more likely to be deteriorated heart wall that doesn't provide much support.

At 7 weeks you might as well be back at it again. I was out driving my Jeep over rough desert roads in about a week (maybe less) and have never had any indication of damage.

By now you should have had or be coming up on your first office checkup. The tests they run will usually spot any problems.

enjoy,
