Digoxin and troprol xl
Hi I have a question...I was just looking up some things on the internet and it says you should not take digoxin and troprol fot your heart ...It says they arent to be given together..I have a ICD and have had it for a year now...I have no trouble and have been taking these 2 meds not at the same time but everyday for a year ....Now I m wondering why the dr gave me them together if you aren suppose to take them...Also I have a drippy nose and a cough and sore throat that just started yesterday...was wondering if I can take amoxicillin or a z pak since im on Digoxin? Sometimes I wonder if a person should be looking up stuff on the internet but I always do and sometimes dont like the answers.I find about meds...So does anyone on here knowanything about all this...thank you anniesu

Hi and thanks for your comment...I had read about a z pak.....what about sulfur...I went to a walk in clnic this afternoon and he prescribed sulfur....and cough sirup with codene ....didnt get that cough sirup because of the
codene...just got some robutussin...I just didnt want it to
get worse because it hurts when I cough and I was afraid
coughing might upset the pacemaker...Its a sinus infection I just panic about it ever going off cause it did
4 times when it was set wrong and it was terrible..I have
been doing so well didnt want to mess anything up

There is a definite drug interaction between beta blockers like toprol when taken with digoxin. This could lead to an abnormally low heart rate and is a combination best avoided; but it sounds as though you have had no problems.
I am wondering why you are rushing to take antibiotics if you have a drippy nose, sore throat and cough. It sounds like the common cold to me and, as you know, antibiotics have no effect on viruses.
If your Dr decides that you do need an antibiotic then definitely avoid azithromycin ( z pack) . This is an antibiotic in the macrolide family and macrolides should NOT be taken when you're on digoxin. Amoxycillin , which is a penicillin,is probably ok; I haven't looked it up. But there are other antibiotics which definitely do not interact with digoxin such as cephalosporins.
Hope this is helpful
