magic mesh screen doors with magnets
I need to see if anyone knows this...I ordered a magic mesh screen door which close with 9 magnets,, the instructions say to consult your doctor before using the screen or putting it up to use..because of possible electromagnetic interference...I hate to bother my doctor with this question so thought someone else might be using one of these screen doors...I ordered it from a TV commercial for my patio door....If anyone has had such an experence would they let me know what they have found out..I do have a CRT-D...so hope someone can help...thanks

Ask the Dr or the MFGR of your ICD...

...Don't make me laugh!
No way on earth anyone who has a shot at being held liable for anything that goes wrong is going to do anything other than waffle.
After the waffling, they really cannot answer your question because it is couched as "...how long is a piece of string?" They know nothing about the magnets. How can they really give you an answer? They cannot! Besides, those answers are written by lawyers & how much does the average lawyer know or care about magnets? All they care about is keeping the parent company free of lawsuits.
I'm not a doctor - I don't even play one on TV or in an ad. So - I'll give you an answer.
Buy one & try it out. Your ICD will tell you if it does not like the magnets. They already told you it has an alarm in it that will beep if you get too close to one. What are you out if it makes the ICD beep? $19.95 or thereabouts. Unless your ICD is a lot more sensitive to magnets than my PM, you should have no problems w/ the screen door. I do everything except stick magnetic name tags over my PM & I've had no problems.
However - I did have a 240 volt cable feeding my water heater 30 amps pass about 2 inches from my PM & THAT affected it by flipping it into the test mode till I got away from the cable. Now THAT's a pretty good zap of magnetic field.

Do you have magnets on your fridge door? Did you ask anyone about them? If so, do they affect your ICD every time you go into the fridge for a bottle of milk?

Anniesu , its a fair enough question. So, you get a PM and suddenly theres a danger that the world suddenly becomes some kind of Magnetic Obstacle Course.
It makes complete sense to be careful,...but even more sense to be reliably informed...so 'Magnets'..these little babies are everywhere, so , get scared ?..no..get informed..a good Life Strategy in any situation.
Magnets are everywhere, the ONLY issue is about how strong they are.....OK, magnets are measured , as in, how strong, by a measurement called 'Gauss'..some German mathematician called Gauss did all the maths / sums /and difficult stuff.
Losing interest ?
Magnetism is what keeps our little World called Earth spinning round the Sun and keeps all the Planets and Stars in the right place, as in, not bashing into eachother.
Seems to me that Magnetic Forces are a GOOD THING !
So...keep away from the big magnets,..and in real ,everyday terms, it aint your food processor or your Kindle, least of all any domestic appliance.
You are safe.....................I would, however have a concern if you were a Roadie for 'Kiss', 'Whitesnake' or Springsteen....these guys drag around loud speakers with magnets in that could suck your fillings out (and PLEASE, no questions about going to big Gigs !!.
My friend, you have your new 'secret friend'...go out and enjoy the lovely world around you,...dont forget...the people that make PM s really dont want the recipients to explode or any thing ,..I mean ,..who is going to clean up ??
Do check back if you wish,...but I hope the Forum will put me right.
It'll be no prob
Deep breaths, enjoy life !!

I did call Boston Scientific they said the same about the magnets because we dont know how strong they really are...I could have someone put it up for me {i shouldnt do it} then just dont ever lean up against it...But going in and out of it all the time just doesnt sound like a good idea to me now...They did say my CRT-D would beep if I got to close then I would have to have the door removed..So think it might be to much of a chance to mess things up I have pets too and I thought it would be a great thing for them..Oh well they do make a screen that hangs down and opens on the side ..I had one of those last year but it didnt work out to good...At least it didnt have magnets. Thanks to you all for the comments
Stay away from the magic mesh door...

...simply because it's cheap! I have one and it lasted I'd say two weeks before starting to tear apart!
I sticked one velcro in the wrong place and when I gently removed it to replace it somewhere else, the mesh magically riped off as easy as a wet piece of cheap toilet paper would!
If the magnets are as 'powerful' as the fabric is resistant, well, 1+1=2...
But like Don said, I too am not a doctor so I'd ask them.
p.s. I hate that product that's far from working like in the tv ad! The door oftens not close by itself though well installed.

Hi Anniesu,
I see you have a Boston Scientic/Guidant PM, you probably could call their Patient Care Line.
I wish I had a definitive answer for you.
