Thank you Don and Pookie for your pep talk regarding information I need to take back with me from my checkup today. Feel fulfilled at checkup appointment but when I'm back home, I feel "short changed". Things will be different today. I'll be more assertive but with a smile.
It's the beginning of week 6 since implant of Medtronic MRI Sure Scan and I don't feel ready to go back to work. They said it would be 5 to 6 weeks. Being a flight attendant requires a lot of lifting. My own bags weigh a ton. How many pounds is ok to lift with a PM implant? My appointments are with the tech not the doctor....... Thx!! Anna

Just guessing

I'm new to all of this, but I understand that there will be a technician that will perform "tune ups" on the icd/pacemaker, but if I had any other medical questions I'd call my cardiologist. We have paid a great deal for this procedure and from what I understand they should be available for consultations and questions. @eve23 thanks for the info. My doc said not to lift anything heavier than a gallon of milk. Low fat, low colestorol and sodium free milk that is, lol. But seriously 25lbs is a big difference. I am so worried about popping the cables or something that I'm making that arm stiff. Although I'm new to this I want to know why don't they perform the surgery with your left hand OVER your head then put it down. Then we won't worry about the over the head deal. IDK just a thought. Right now I'm walking around like Igor. I hope that the healing time passes quickly so I can move on. I'm only a week out and the pain is epic. If it were allowed I'd ask for an induced coma, wake me in 6 weeks with a stack of pancakes and some coffee.

What I was told

I am an RN, and often have to lift pt's and carry a lot of equipment (because I am a home hospice nurse-have to bring the office with me). It's been 2 weeks since my implant, and the Dr.'s note said I was not allowed to lift over 25 pounds for the next 4 weeks with left arm, or raise it above shoulder level (in other words-office work for 4 weeks). He feels 6 weeks after implant I should be able to have the weight restriction lifted (no pun intended), but said he would reevaluate at the 6 week mark. I would ask the Tech to check with the Dr before assuming it's o.k., just to be safe. :)
