AV Pacing

I do quarterly transmissions of the pacemaker and get response from the doctor. Usually I ask for some information each time such as predicted longevity of the battery, Atrial and Ventricle pacing percentages, etc. For the last 2.5 years all has been stable but the last reading I got a shocking news. My Ventricle pacing was hovering around 4% - 5% but the last reading the Ventricular pacing was 96%. The nurse said that at the next office visit in November she will check the settings and not to worry for now. I am very concerned that something had degraded in my heart. I do not have any adverse symptoms but want to know if somebody may have an explanation of this big jump.

Thanks

Just a wild guess here... if you are pacing 4%, your SENSING (the time the pm is watching but not pacing) rate is 96%. Did she read it wrong?

If you feel the same, don't worry about it. Odds of changing that much not feeling it are pretty small. If things have changed, the pm has taken care of it. Either way, nothing to worry about.

Probably a mistake

Hi!

I had exactly that happen what Tracey suggests: The nurse read my numbers wrong. She told me that I would not need any pacing at all, when I was pacing 99% in the atria. She thought I was pacing 1%, and 99% was sensing.

Having been through three different pacemaker manufacturers, I now understand why things like this can happen. The way statistics are visualized in the pacemaker reports vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. With my Sorin pacer, we thought that I was pacing only 50%, but then found out that the other column with 44% was the rate response sensor, and that this had to be added to the 50% atrial pacing.

Don't worry too much, but if it leaves you no rest, just call again and ask.
