Coughing and Sneezing

Since getting a really bad flue about four days ago, I can feel my heart beating irregularly and experiencing dizziness when sitting...not when lying down or moving around, just sitting-and it happens about every 30 seconds. I had my pacemaker put in at the end of August 2011 and experienced this to a lesser degree at the time for about a month. October and November have been great, with me feeling perfectly normal, and now this. I don't have a family doc, well I just got registered with one staring in January so would have to go to Emerge..
Could this just be from being dehydrated, coughing and sneezing? I know if someone is having a heart attack they say to cough, so wondering if my horrible coughing spasms could be affecting my heart or pm, my ribs are sore from so much coughing.
I am feeling better today, still coughing and sneezing, and after eating a bit more the dizziness does subside a bit.
Thanks for any insight.

For your dizziness, is it the feeling the room is spinning or are you feeling lightheaded. If the room is spinning it's probably your inner ear from the flu. Could be fluid there or an infection in the ear. If you feel lightheaded then you could be dehydrated and have low blood sugar. I strongly doubt it's your pacer since you said you felt great in Oct/November. Sounds like it's all from the flu... However if you start to feel worse, yes go to the doctor. Sue

It's a room spinning thing, the exact same feeling I used to get before I passed out..pre pacemaker days. But it doesn't go any further than the spinning...I think you may be right about blood sugar, I ate and it has really subsided. I haven't been eating much for the past few days either.
I get scared really easy when any of the previous feelings come back, my heart stopped...they had to revive me and shoved that pacemaker in me while I was trying to get re-orientated from my heart being stopped.
Maybe I've got a bit of PTSD.
I never took my fainting spells seriously for years...by the time I went to the hospital my heart would not beat over 32 bpm and that was when I was being active. So I'm over paranoid now ...
Thanks Sue for your post, it was reassuring to this new pacemaker patient, and I will keep a close tab of this :)
