i am so glad to have found this site. I am a 70 yr old who had a pacemaker placed in 2006 after a 5 way bypass and aortic valve replacement. I have finally gotten past several stents but continue having pain over the site of the pacemaker and have intermittent severe chest pain (like heart attack pain) at the area of the site. After many tests and hospital visits they said it is not heart related but have no clue what it is. so now i am thinking it is scar tissue and nerve related as cathryn had mentioned in her post. thanks for the info. frank g

I'm so sorry to hear that you are having to go through this. I'm kind of curious as to hear what heart tests they gave you. You don't have to share if you don't feel comfortable in doing so.
It is possible that is could be scar tissue and nerve related pain, but what jumps out at me is the severe chest pain (like heart attack pain). Have your doctor(s) ever tried you on Nitro for these heart attack like pains? Might be something you would like to discuss with them. I'm not in the medical field, but when I was having feelings like you describe, Nitro helped me a bit. Also, have you ever discussed with them the possibility of this being Angina?
And lastly, is there any way you can go and get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion.
I just hate when people are living in pain and there is an answer out there, sometimes we just have to find a doctor who is willing to go the distance to find the answer.
Does this pain happen during certain activities? - like walking? eating? perhaps you could jot it down when it happens & what you were doing at the time - it might provide a clue....couldn't hurt.
If it is scar tissue - can't you get a CT scan or an ultrasound as perhaps one (or both) might show something.
If it happens while you are active - I'd be requesting a stress test and have the PM tech there to see what is actually happening. TraceyE can explain the benefits of doing this way better than I can.
Never give up - keep pushing the doctors for an answer.
Good luck & take care,
Pookie
