Hello again and Happy New Year to you all. I was just wondering what sort of exercise I can do. I am now 2 months post PM. The site is still sensitive and uncomfortable to put left arm over chest to right side, but I now need to get out of the house and meet people and get ready to go back to work (I’m a health care assistant for the nhs). I live in gb north wales.
I have a bad drought of depression and think it would be good to go out now, can anybody help?
thank you

Get out and get active. At 8 weeks or so things should be settled down. The pain when putting your left arm over to right may be due to your not using it enough. If you don't do some of those motions scare tissue can build up in and around the pocket. Then when you do reach over it puts pressure on it and lets you know.
My suggestion is to do some gentle range of motion exercises. Make them enough to challenge the area a bit.

go out and do things...go for a nice walk. find a nice place where you can read a good book. i just had my pm put in in sept 2011...i was feeling depressed as well because i didnt know what was going to happen to me. our heart is what keeps us going...but i was out of bed in three weeks and back to work and slowly but surely i got back into my work out routine...i do cardio at the gym and on weekends i go for hikes, nature always helps. it is scary to have a pm but dont let it get you down, go out and do fun things...enjoy...
You know you're wired when...
You can finally prove that you have a heart.

Happy New Year to you too:)
Walking would be a good starting point for getting in some exercise.
Don't confine yourself indoors, no matter what the weather, even if you have to walk a few minutes in the morning and then go out again in the afternoon, just to break up your day.
If you think your depression is becoming an issue, please speak with your family doctor about it.
Try and get back into your normal routine and before you know it you won't even be thinking of your pacemaker.
You didn't say why you needed your pacemaker, so perhaps it would also be a good idea to discuss any type of exercising with your doctor before you begin, just to be safe.
Take care,
Pookie
