I have a question about the rate response sensor for the pacemaker. I got my pacemaker almost 5 weeks ago and have had the rate response changed several times. As of now I'm set at 85-90 within 30 seconds. I was at 95-100 within 30 seconds, but everyday activity was making my heart rate too high. Now it seems that every time I get on the treadmill and walk at a fairly fast pace my heart rate will not go above 90. It mainly stays at 85 or below. It also did this when I was set at 95-100. Any suggestions on how to make the heart rate higher???

Thank you Frank for your comment. I will call my rep tomorrow and see if she can do a treadmill session with me this coming week. I appreciate your advice.

There are several settings that affect how the pacer responds to activity. Keep in mind that it is acceleration rather than actual work load that it senses. So a gentle walk on a flat treadmill or the same speed walk on a significant incline may not produce different HR's. I'm just using this as an example.
The best approach is to ask to have the Medtronic rep do a treadmill session with you. The computer they use to interrogate and adjust the pacemaker has a program that will put you through a series of activities and taylor the RR to them. I've only read about it, but don't have any experience with it since I don't need RR.
