Rate response mode not switched on yet

I'm a 62-year old with sick sinus syndrome, had my PM implant 2 weeks ago and feel fine. I want to get back to running as soon as possible as I miss it like crazy - been running for 30 years, BUT my rate response mode on my AAIR PM is switched off at the moment and they won't switch it on until I go back for my first check after another 3 weeks. I went for a 2-mile jog this morning and had exactly the same sudden heart rate drop symptoms while running as I had before the PM. Does anyone know why they won't switch it on sooner? I realise I'm lucky to have no issues with post-op problems, but just anxious to get going properly again.

Hi Steve

I'm not certain that turning on the RR will solve your problem. My understanding is that the main reason for having a PM is to prevent heart rate drop .. if it is not doing just that then you need to see someone from the cardiology team a.s.a.p. Also running after just 2 weeks may be pushing it a little .

I hope you get it sorted out quickly.

Thanks for your comments, Ian and Ronaldo. I checked with my cardiologist before I went for my run and he said OK! I have an AAIR pacemaker, but the R isn't yet active. I had a few palpitations after the run but presume the PM will stop the bradycardia I used to get - down in the 30s. 3 weeks just seems a long wait when I feel ready for it now...
