Defibrillator settings

I have had a defibrillator since 2003 then another in 2007 which neither has ever fired. I relocated to another state to retire then consulted a new arrhythmia doctor who changed the settings on my defibrillator in February. My device fired for the first time in March. I spent a week in the hospital then the docs prescribed another pill to "regulate" my heartbeat. The first medication caused hives then the second one I am currently taking has caused chest pain and dizziness. My device fired again a week ago and my doctor has simply increased the number of times that I take the rhythm medication. I am still having trouble with pain and the doctor says that I am simply obsessed with the possibility that the device will fire again. Could it be the settings? Should I get a second opinion? Heed my doctor's advice?

BOZEMAN is right on with the suggestions. One of the questions I would ask is why he changed the settings and now needs meds. Ask for an opinion on what would need to be changed on the settings if the med was stopped.

And most important get yourself a small dictation recorder and take it with you to the next appt. I find docs are much more honest in their statements when they know it is documented.

I would have the manf. rep do a reading of events and get their suggestion on setting.
