Erratic

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you could give me some advice. I’ve had a dual chamber PM fitted for heart block for just over a year now. Had no problems with it. Had a check up recently and everything is fine. Tonight tho my heart rate is gone really erratic all of a sudden and it’s got me quite concerned. It’s going really fast then really slow, but not regular. Feels like it’s skipping beats and jumpy, but with no signs of my PM kicking in.

Not sure if I should be worried about this?

Thanks x

Erractic heart beats

Hi Sarah,

Sometimes our hearts will just do that out of the blue. It could be from something we ate (caffeine), or stress, or it could just be a split second electrical issue that will resolve itself pretty quickly. However, with that being said, if it continues perhaps you should call whatever doctor takes care of you and your pacemaker and ask to come in and they can check you out.

Take care,
Pookie

Arrhythmia possibilities

Sara: Sounds like all was well for about a year, but suddenly went to pot on you.

Since you have no idea what is happening & we are an ocean apart, I'd say to be concerned, not worried. But this is enough to warrant a call & visit to your clinic to get a definite diagnosis of what is happening.

This sounds to me like the description by a new observer of events called PVC's (Premature Ventricular Contractions.)

They feel exactly like "skipping beats." All the beats are there - your PM will NOT let you skip a beat!!!!! The missing one is so faint that you don't sense it, giving you the impression that your heart is beating slowly. About 1/2 its normal rate, to be exact. if you have them every other beat. Have them more randomly & it will really feel erratic. Have a run of them in a whole series of beats & it will feel like your heart has stopped for a few seconds.

They are the scariest of all the Arrhythmias!

Here's where you go to read a bunch of comments by people who have PVC's. They catch a whole bunch of aspects of what they are like. Go to the top right corner of the home page & find "Search." Click on that & enter "New to Having a Pacemaker." hit "Search just to the right of where you entered the title. It will give you a list of posts. The second one down is what you are seeking. Click on the title & the entire thread will pop up. Yours to enjoy!

Meanwhile, RELAX! If it is PVC's, they won't kill you, just make you think like they will!

PVC's

As Donr said, they are scarey,I had PVC's like out the wazoo, when my wiring finally showed that it went faulty on me.
It can be,I suppose, for everyone a different type of situation, regardless not fun.
I say too,get in to where it is they take care of you,get it addressed, figured out,as if not it might make you really crazy not knowing exactually what the heck is really happening.
Make the call, make them listen and get answers!
