MRI Scan

I was at the hospital yesterday, on another problem and the specialist recommended that I went for an MRI scan. I pointed out that I had a PM and thought it was not advisable. He took a note of the make and model and thought that some types did not cause a problem.

I have a St Jude, dual chamber, and when I read the book, it says to avoid Electro Magnet Interference, EMI and lists an MRI scan as a source of EMI.

Just wondered if anybody else has any experience of MRI scans.

Hi Scottish Tom, you are right about questioning the specialist about getting a MRI for you. I also have a St Jude, dual pacemaker. I was told by my cardiologist that I should have an MRI before I was implanted because I would not EVER be able to have one later. I also read all of the information given to me later on and it said the same thing.... NO MRI.
I believe that part of being a healthy patient is being a responsible patient.... responsible for who does what to me. Good decision on your part in my opinion. Check with you dr. if you have questions or are uncertain. Pacergirl. ;-)

I just recently had a St. Jude's Pacer put in and I was told to never even go into a room with an MRI machine in it. I think you should check with your dr.

reason

The reason that you can never have an MRI is because you have a big lump of metal in your chest. Go for an MRI and this is likely to be pulled out by the GIGANTIC magentic force that your body is subjected to!!!!!!!

Your doctor is an idiot, i suggest switching doctors ASAP!
