Planning to hike Macchu Picchu

I'm planning to hike the Inca Trail up to Machu Picchu, two years post PM surgery. I feel great, am back to daily workouts, and have my doctor's clearance to exercise with "no restrictions."

My condition is Sick Sinus Syndrome (also called Tachy Brady Syndrome). It is effectively managed with a combo of meds (for the tachycardia) and a St. Jude's Zephyr pacemaker (for the bradycardia).

I feel so much better now that I'm thinking about doing things like this "journey of a lifetime," following the Inca Trail for 4 days to reach the lost city of the Incas, Macchu Picchu. Of course, I will be going with a licensed tour group and will have some friends with me for support.

Have any of you already made this trip? Please tell me about your experience.

No, but...

... thought you at least deserved a reply of some sort!

The stupidest thing I did was take an 18 mile hike at night over a NY State wilderness road strewn w. boulders the size of oranges. My PM made it, but I didn't. Stumbled on a humongous boulder at about 4 AM & bruised thigh so badly that I could not walk. PM just kept going, beating its little bass drum while I lay on the ground, writhing in agony. Wound up on crutches for at least a week.

Enjoy!!!

I haven't made that hike but have always wanted to! I am hoping to build up to it in the future now that I am a little heather :)

Let me know if you go and what your experience is. I would love to hear from someone who did it!
