ICDs & Amiodarone

On Feb 21st,2007,my husband passed away. In June,2006 they implanted an ICD and a week later he got 5 shocks, one so bad he felt like it was going to knock him out of his chair. They put him back in the hospital & put him on Amiodarone. They sent him home and he started having trouble breathing. I kept calling his heart Doctor and he did nothing except a chest xray & said his lungs were fine. From June till Feb I was complaining to the doctor that he was having trouble breathing. He did nothing.
In Feb I brought him to the emergency room. They kept him in the hospital & the 1st thing they did was take him off Amiodarone because he had a collapsed lung. They now had him on 3 pages of medications. On the evening of Feb 21st my husband,my best friend, passed away. Marcia

Marcia, I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. I can't begin to imagine what you are going through. My husband had something similar to what you are saying. Had an ICD implanted 10/06, 2 wks. later - shocked then shocked 36 hrs. after that and hospitalized for a week. They put him on Amiodarone. Since then he has had 2 episodes of being hospitalized for difficulty breathing, but they gave him large doses of lasix. He also takes Lasix 2 x a day plus other meds (including the amiodarone). Did you have a question about the Amiodarone? I know it is a pretty powerful drug and while in the hospital after being shocked, they "loaded" him with it (mega doses throuh an iv drip). I know it has some bad side affects. I am grateful for every day we have. Take care and I'll keep you in my prayers. Kathy
