I am a 10 day out of emergency surgery pacemaker receiver. This summer we are travelling back home to the maritimes, which has a 4 hour time zone change. My settings allow my heart rate to drop to 50 between 11 pm and 5:30 am BC time. Does the pacemaker somehow change time zones or is this going to be a problem for me?

Good question!

That is an excellen question - never thought about it. I've had mine for a month now and I have a similar setting (50 at 10:30pm and 60 at 6:00am). My husband and I are going to Montana (we live on the east coast of the U.S.) and I belive it is a couple of hours difference between eastern and mountain time. So, I may be waking up with pacer activity at about 4 am!! UGH! Another question I'll have to ask my doc next week :-)

Interesting question. I'm taking a group of high school kids on a trip to China, Korea, and Japan in a few years, so I will monitoring this post to see the answer.
Time Zones

I talked to my Pacemaker Nurse yest and she said that the pacemaker stays in the time zone it was programmed for. When I travel to the Maritimes this summer (4 hour time zone difference) they are going to set my pacemaker to a low of 50 for the whole time. They are hoping my heart will be healthy enough to allow the continuous 50 instead of 60 during the day and 50 at night it is programmed at right now.

I'm 43 and have had my pacemaker four weeks today. I'm looking forward to living another 50 years and this marvelous device inside me will help me do that.
Pacemaker w/GPS?
by COBradyBunch - 2011-06-02 04:06:44
Don't think they have GPS on pacers so I would check with your doc but yea, I think it could be an issue. Would be nice if they added GPS... help out guys like Patch and Electric Frank know where they are, or our wives and husbands could use it to keep track of us and where we go. On 2nd thought... no thanks...
