Possible Thoracic Outlet After OR

My husband had insertion of ICD a week ago and is experiecing severe pain around insertion site and shoulder area. His hand is darker than the other one when he sits at rest. The longer he is upright the worse the pain is. When he lies down the pain is gone. Is this normal right after surgery?

Thanks Di

Get checked out....

I don't think anyone on here is qualified to give you the reason why, but severe pain definitely needs to be checked out as soon as possible. Have your husband call his doctor and ask him. Good luck.... Sue

I agree!!!!!

What you are describing just doesn't sound right...is there any way he can be seen by his cardiologist as soon as possible?

Severe pain is nothing to fool around with.

And NO this is NOT normal post-op.

Matter of fact, if it were me - I'd be going to the ER.

Better safe than sorry....right?

Always err on the side of caution.

Some pain a week after the implant is normal, but the difference in hand color isn't. That is an indication of a significant blood flow restriction somewhere.

I would sure get it checked out. Don't be put off by them.

Thanks to all who responded. All is well now and my husband is healing well and starting to get used to having the defibrillator in his chest
