WiFi in schools

Hi I am a new member, I am so glad to have found this site. When I was 20.5 weeks pregnant we found out my son had isolated complete heart block, heart beat went from 140 at 16 wks dpown to 53. Found out I carry the anti-Ro antibody causing the electrical current to be destroyed. He is $.5 yrs old on pm #2 and doing well. Had a rough start but ok until now. In a week they are putting wifi into our public school. Does anyone have a child in a school with wifi that can give me information, or anything, I am kinda freakin out. I have his Drs agreeing to put a holter monitor on him for 24 hrs to see if it affects him but i dont know what else to do? Thanks for listening hopefully someone can help put my mind at ease.

I work around wi-fi all day. I also have wi-fi at home. I have heart block as well and I seem to be just fine. My PM is actually wi-fi too. I think you son's pm should be just fine and he will probably be getting a wi-fi pacer on his next upgrade. My monitor actually uses wireless to download my pacemaker readings every night.

Coffee houses have it, hotel lobbies have it, my home does, my kids school does (I've got over 200 volunteer hours this year). I've never felt it.

WiFi is very low power as transmitters go. There is a much higher dose of energy driving by a cell phone or radio tower.

a few yrs ago when WiFi became more common. So I called my EP's office & spoke with his nurse & she told me that they use WiFi in the whole office including the Device Clinic where I had been going every 6 months for my PM check. So I calmed down as I have hasd no problems at all there either seeing PM clinic, INR clinic or my cardio's office & my PM is 8 yrs old this month. Hope this helps.

I am on my second PM, when someone mentions that their PM is wifi, it actually transmits on 413 Megahertz. Wi fi is around 2500 megahertz, wifi is also around the frequency of microwave ovens and many of the cordless phones in homes. it really is not a problem. However if you are concerned,call the PM companies, they are all very helpful and will explain what does and does not affect the PM. in the past they were not as well shielded, that is how the stories of pacemakers and microwave ovens started. They have since shielded PMs much better. There are things that will impact a pacemaker, read the literature that came with the PM. they are all weird feelings in your chest, but not horrible. Some very large transmitters can have big impacts, I got jammed by some very powerful military jamming systems, but even then the PM reset when they got out of range, and I was fine.

Thanks everyone. When I phoned the PM company Medtronic, the lady told me that they EXPECT it not to cause a problem as they run different frequencies but said testing was not actually done! That was where I really became concerned, but the more I read and talk about it Im feeling more comfortable. The principal of his school said if it does cause my son a problem after we get results from holter then his health will be main priority. I dont know what theyll do though because people have been fighting wifi in schools and the board wont listen. Im one person, would they really care!
