When my pacemaker was first put in, the left lead moved to my diaphram and had hiccups??? in lower left side(under rib cage). I guess they were hiccups, not the regular kind. Anyway, they shut my left lead off and I continued in a-fib. Was cleared from doctor in a month. After 5 months, I went on a trip to my hometown and was in a fib the whole time. Not sure of the medical there (boonies) I suffered it out til I got home. My abdomen was swollen like I was 7 months pregnant. After the first 7 days in the hospital they decided to let me know about how the left lead had grown into my diaphram. I had another surgeon rewire the whole thing again. Evedently the first surgeon/cardiologist didn't put the p/m in deep enough and didn't have it wired right. Now after a year, I am getting regular hiccups off and on which I hesitate to call the doctor for such a minor thing, but am wondering if this is normal? Does anyone think I moved a lead again?

Hi, I do not know about the leads moving. It is 9 days since I got my pm and I am getting "hiccups" every now and again, up to 16 in a row, mostly just 2 or 3. I was checked out at the ER but they found nothing of concern, just that it had something to do with being thin (no fat). With your history I think contacting them would be a good idea. All the best to you.

The lead did move as per first cardiologist surgeon. She told me it happened right after it was done. After a month of it, she decided to turn the av node lead off & those kind of hiccups stopped after that..The hiccups I had at the time were in my lower left abd...under rib cage and not really hiccups we usually get. Now I get the real ones a few every so often and am curious about it. Would contact doctor but can't get through as the "his assistant will tell me not to worry"...not a real nurse or certified in any way. I worked for a cardiologist and the way she answers me leaves me questioning her knowledge. I am 72 yrs old and in good health otherwise..The second cardiologist who changed the pacemaker leads also cauterized my av node, thus it is a permament pacemaker now.During the first month of my first pm insertion, I also went to ER for the abd hiccups and they said nothing to worry about....but it was...pm lead was attaching itself to diaphram
