motorcycles and pms

Hi, I’m new here and think this site is great.  I had a pacemaker implanted in February of 2011.  I’m wondering if there are any dangers with driving my Harley.  Does anyone else drive motorcycles with a pacemaker and are there any mal effects?

Thank you, Harold1962

Hi Harold,
I had my pacemaker fitted in February 2010, apart from a few weeks afterwards have been riding my BMW 1200RT with no problems, even went on a 2660 mile trip to Austria in June 2010. Off around Scotland and Orkney in June 2011.
Safe riding

Ride to live

Hi Harold, ride. That's all I can say. There are no dangers riding a motorcycle after a pacemaker. I do and love it. Many times it's my therapy. (-: Just be sure you're beyond the time the doctor has told you not to lift your arm on the side of the pacer so the leads are in good and solid. When riding, sometimes the stretch with the handlebars might be very long and might pull your arm and therefore endanger your leads or quick movement with the bars too. I remember asking my doctor when I could ride and she said "oh you're one of those organ donors"...nice huh? But I got her to laugh and she cleared me. So beware of "fearful of motorcycles" doctors and friends....they might scare you. Enjoy life and enjoy riding.....the road stretches out in front of you.... Sue

Ride, ride

Hi Harold:
I've had that same question, about riding, and have been watching the posts lately from others, too, about that. I can't wait to get on my 883L. I had my ICD put in this past November 2010, and wasn't thinking about riding till I started to feel better and remembered I owned a motorcycle!! Too busy feeling sorry for me. But it's springtime here in Ohio, where I am, and I can't wait to get back on now that I'm all fixed up. Be safe out there.

Harley Riding

No problem riding with a PM.

Only problem is if you fall off you might break your new PM?

It is also useful in stopping a bullet if need be?

I was just in a violent car wreck and got T-boned, my PM just kept on ticking through it all so keep on biking!

You know you're wired when...

Like the Energizer Bunny, you keep going.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
