Weight Lifting

Looking for input on lifting weights with pacemaker. Our 16 year old son has had pacer since age of 4 and I can't seem to find concrete advice on the subject.
Thanks!

My only question for a 16yr old would be whether his rapid growth at that age would have used up the slack they put in the leads. It would depend on how long ago the most recent pacer was inserted. Might be a good idea to talk with the cardiologist. He/she should have a good idea about the leads.

Actually, the main issue is stretching his arms over his head with or without weights. This puts a pull on the leads but is usually OK after a few weeks from implant.

As long as the dr clears him to do it and he has plenty of room for the leads, let him have at it! There are a few drs that say no bench presses or pull ups because of the stress it can put on the leads, but most of us have no restrictions and there are quite a few of us here who lift.

You know you're wired when...

You have rhythm.

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
