But it's beating on its own...

Hi!
Well, if your heart beats at 30bpm without the pacer, then you are not 100% reliant - that's what you are when it doesn't beat without the pacer. I mean, 30 feels awful, but at least I don't pass out when it's that low. My heart rate is often in the 30s, too, when they check for my own rhythm. And like Tracey said, the rate changes. Sometimes when I have it checked, it's 40 or 50, sometimes it's 30.
Best wishes

Heart Rate & PM

by SMITTY - 2011-03-29 02:03:10

Hello,

If your natural heart rate is 30 and the low set point on your pacemaker is say 40, 50, 60, or more, then a checkup will show you are being paced 100% of the time. However, if the PM quit your heart rate would revert back to 30 BPM and while you may again feel like crap, you would continue to live.

Good luck.

varies

I've been paced since 1993 and it's different every time it's checked. All that matters is the pm is there when I need it, so I don't worry much if I can do 20 or even 50 or 60bpm on my own for short periods of time.

You're not alone

At my last checkup in December, I was told that my heart was 100% reliant on the PM for keeping my heart beating. At first this freaked me out, but eventually I accepted it as a fact of my life and I don't think about it any more.
Good Luck,
Danny
