For the explanation.....another dumb question. Why would it be necessary to scan the PM's at night? Some of us are only checked every three months..... Sue
I'm guessing, but...

I think that joyep might be referring to the MERLIN. Joyep has a St. Jude PM so I'm guessing that is what he/she has. Yes, it does scan our PM every night. It will also alert us if we have any problems. The MERLIN does need to be connected to a phone line at all times.
How?

People might not know what this is all about. Could you explain...do you wear a special device? Sue
Yep that's Merlin

What's nice you sort of forget its even there. I went into A-fib and my dr called me to come in. It stores the alerts and sends it to your doctor. Still amazes me how it all works but Im glad it does!

The Pacemakers that are monitored with the Merlin, mine is an "Accent", come with many new features. It can and does record any changes. Changes in leads, changes in the patient and notifies out dr! Often times we don't know.
We rest at night, and therefore we are still for the most part. It has given me freedom that I had to give up when I had the phone checks. I always had to call into the office, hookup the machine, and be near a phone line, be in a quiet place, and relax. I found this to be very disturbing to my work day. I was not always in the office when I had a phone check scheduled, I would forget to call in, or I would have someone in my office, it was not a good plan for me.
The Merlin allows me freedom to live my busy life without thinking about the pacemaker. I'm not suggesting that the call in phone system is not good, it just did not work well for me.
My Medtronic unit does the

the nightly checks when I sleep, Magster mine is supposedly sent to as far as I know a Medtronic link somewhere, the pm on mine and Im sure they are all capable of this to check or monitor the heart, ekg, afib, irregular beats, ect whatever your doctor or cardio doctor wants monitored and if there are any irregularaties it is sent on to the doctor that issued the machine. And now instead of going to the cardio every 3 months everyother I go to cardio doc for checkup the other they set a day to do the transmission, I never wait like they say I just send it up since its their number programed into it by medtronic so I dont have to stay around it all day long, ussually do it in the morning and later that afternoon my EP lady calls to tell me the results.
Thanks

everyone for the explanation. One thing I've learned is I never hear the results of my phone checks until I have an appointment with cardio. I guess I should ask for copies? Sue
night scanning

I too get scanned at night. I have a dual chamber Biotronik. The only time I get my results will be when I go for ckup unless there is an event that the dr feels needs to notify me. I like the idea that Im being monitored daily. Mine monitors at 2am while Im sleeping. It sends the results from the day. Amazing technology. I like knowing the dr will know as soon as something is not right.
